Caring for engagement rings
You have been given the gift of a life time from your partner and are busy making plans to get married but don’t neglect your duties as an owner of a fancy piece of wedding jewellery. Engagement rings can be held in higher regards than the wedding ring itself as it tends to be more eye catching and flashy than the traditional plain band. This means they tend to need more care and attention whether they are decorated with expensive diamonds or a cheaper cubic zirconia, they hold a sentimental worth that can be irreplaceable. It doesn’t take too much time to care for your jewellery and it is vital that you take the time to do a few simple things to ensure that it lasts as long as your marriage does. The most basic thing to do is to clean it properly. Diamonds and other precious stones are easily discoloured and can be made dull from the use of everyday house cleaners and detergents.
If you choose to clean your ring yourself then use specialised jewellery cleaner to get the best results and the best way to keep it clean is to take it into a reputable jewellery shop and ask them to do it professionally. It is cheap and simple and you need not worry about building up a layer of scum on your jewellery that raps the stone of its all important sparkle. Engagement rings are often the most treasured item of jewellery a girl can own and simply having it inspected once every 12 months will ensure that it safely encases its stones properly and keep it safe. The most obvious mistake to make with tem is to take them off when cleaning and leaving them in a precarious position, like the side of the sink or bath. This is a sure way to lose your jewellery so remove it before your hands get slippery from the soap and place it in a jewellery box on a chest of drawers in the bedroom, far away from where you are cleaning.
Also make sure you take it off before doing exercises or anything rigorous that could dislodge it or damage it. It is easy to think that you will leave it in just this once so make sure you get into a good routine of removing it as and when is necessary and placing it somewhere here it won’t be forgotten or eaten by the dog. Children are also partial to shiny objects so keep it out of reach and preferably sight as well. Spend a little and get it insured as just like any other worthy item, engagement rings can be insured and while this won’t compensate you for any emotional loss, it will help to cover the cost financially. Basically, the best way to care for your jewellery is to treat it as if it is the most precious item you own and to many it often is, so never let it slip your mind to care for it in the same you wouldn’t forget to eat dinner or go to work.
